The Barnegat Township School District is a community public school district that offers quality education to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Barnegat Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. The district aims at nurturing and educating students in accordance with curriculum standards to prepare them for success in life. It comprises three elementary schools (K-5): Cecil S. Collins Elementary School, Lillian M. Dunfee Elementary School and Robert L. Horbelt Elementary School; a High School (grades 9-12) named Barnegat High School; and one Middle School (6-8) named Russell O. Brackman Middle School. Barnegat High School provides a safe and innovative school environment where students are treated with respect and dignity. The students are provided with the required tools to analyze and access the information, express themselves and communicate ideas. The district is categorized by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in the District Factor Group “CD” which is the 6th highest of 8 groupings.

Character Education Program, monthly character traits are highlighted, promoting cooperation and friendship within the school community. Special caring messages are announced weekly over public address systems, highlighting the character trait of month. Moreover, there are grade level award assemblies for every character trait, and the recipients receive a certificate of recognition and a parent letter. As per the SAFE- Safety Awareness for All program, counselors visit all grades and offer lessons on harassment and stronger safety. At Barnegat School District, the students learn to navigate different information sources like visual, print and audio material via integration of the information literacy skills.
The resident of Toms River, Thomas McMahon Superintendent is presently working as a Business Administrator at Barnegat Township School District. He worked as District Staff Development Trainer At Toms River Regional School District from 1987 to 1989 and led summer institutes for senior staff on instructional techniques. While working at Plumsted Township School District, he developed a $850, 000 business partnership program, and also created 4.5 million dollar professional development network with the college of New Jersey. Aside from that, Thomas McMahon Superintendent has also held the position of Assistant Superintendent/School Business Administrator at the Toms River Regional School District and established many technology learning centers throughout the district. A graduate from Monmouth University, Thomas is also widely known for his humanitarian activities.
