Thomas McMahon Superintendent was the salutatorian of his high school, and graduated with 3.91 grade point average out of 4 upon his college graduation. He stood seventh in the college graduating class and received the Summa Cum Laude honor. He was employed throughout the college, but still he managed to maintain this high level of academic success. He received many scholarships including the Freed Foundation scholarship, Garden State Scholarship and George Link Business Scholarship. He was granted by the Liberal Arts Dean to have a double major in the Business and Political Science. Thomas completed his Master of Arts degree from Jersey City State College, with 4.0 cumulative average, and attended Rutgers University for his doctorate degree.

The term K-12 refers to the sum of secondary and primary education and is commonly used in the United States. It is the shortening of Kindergarten (K) for 4 to 6 year olds through 12th for 16-19 year olds, the 1st and last grade of free education. Pre K-12 school districts aim at providing quality education to young people so that they can thrive in college and career.
Thomas McMahon Superintendent made changes in the old curriculum and worked closely with the staff to ensure successful implementation of the new curriculum. He initiated many new offices, appointed new staff and provided appropriate training to the newly recruited persons. In order to implement new technologies across the district, he combined the philosophies of new and old staff. With the support of several government offices, parents and Board of Education members, Thomas negotiated changes to NJ school funding, which further increased support to Barnegat and Toms River school districts.

He holds certification in many teaching areas such as Elementary School, Business, Social Studies and Nursery School. In addition to professional achievements, Thomas also participates actively in community service, and presently he is working as the Chairman of Watchful Shepherd Program.
