Thomas McMahon Superintendent is highly regarded for his contributions in the creation of 2 new K-12 districts in the state of New Jersey. His first effort started in 1997 at the Plumsted Township while the second was during 2004 at Barnegat Township School District. Before creating any of the districts, Thomas had to prove to the state that the new district would not cause any fiscal, educational or racial imbalance. For this, he created a 100-page document which was approved by the State. The next step was to convince the community and the citizens to vote in favor of creating the new districts. The project was approved, with more than 75 percent of persons in both districts voting in the favor of this new creation.
Thomas McMahon Superintendent supervised a 10 million dollar (on 30 acre campus) and a 45 million dollar (on 68 acre campus) construction project. He helped in developing new curriculums, hiring new staff and purchasing equipment for the new buildings. He started many extra-curricular programs including various sports programs, and all this was done without raising taxes. One high school attracted nearly 1000 students while the other contained 400 students. Aside from this, Thomas McMahon Superintendent also founded an Educational Foundation to raise money, and a Business Partnership program. He established linkages to Monmouth University and the College of New Jersey for curriculum and training ideas.
A graduate from Monmouth University, Thomas McMahon Superintendent is also regarded for his community service. He is the Chairman of Watchful Shepherd Program and aims at the prevention of child abuse. He is also one among the Board of Trustees at Community Medical Center, and the Board of Directors at the Association of Retarded Citizens (Ocean County). In appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the community, he was given J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award. The recipient of Garden State Fellowship, Thomas was invited to take part in the 2005 Oxford Round table at Oxford University. Moreover, he has also set the record of being the youngest Assistant Commissioner of Education in Finance for the State of New Jersey.
