A school Business Administrator usually works under the supervision and direction of the Superintendent of schools and in school district’s main office. Generally, school business administrators are responsible for managing the school’s business practices, reviewing budgets, and helping negotiate deals on school supplies and equipment while adhering to the state’s regulations. The main responsibility of school business administrator is to administer and prepare the budget of the school district, which includes reviewing changes to the district’s funding and recommending budget to school board and Superintendent for approval. So, it is extremely important for administrators to know the negative or positive changes on funding which have been made by private entities or state government to adjust the spending as required.

The school’s business administration office is generally responsible for purchasing and accounting functions of the district, and employs persons who track the spending and create financial statements. Typically, school business administrators may also have some supervisory duties, especially in larger districts with a great deal of employees. They work with supervisory personnel involved in the district’s financial planning, and allocate components of the budget to each of district’s department. They must ensure that the resources and budgets are being used effectively. A primary role of school business administrator is to supervise the resource efficiency in his/her district, which is very important especially during difficult economic times. Generally, an administrator must consider the opportunities to maximize resources and reduce costs while helping the district achieve its educational goals. He/she should be able to coordinate and manage the business affairs of district in an effective and efficient manner.
